| PRESS RELEASE Contact: Jim Brewer, West Sacramento Historical Society 916-617-2288 Jeri Hughes Wingfield, West Sacramento Historical Society 916-371-7678 or 916-296-5616 THE SIKHS of WEST SACRAMENTO On Sunday, September 23, 2007, The Sikhs of West Sacramento exhibition reception will be held at the West Sacramento Historical Society Museum and Visitors Bureau, 324 Third Street in the Broderick district of West Sacramento. The reception will take place from noon to 5:00 p.m. with a formal program taking place at 2:00 p.m. West Sacramento City Councilman Mark Johannessen will officiate the program with both City of West Sacramento Mayor Christopher Cabaldon and Yolo County Board of Supervisor Mike McGowan, speaking before the guests. Sikhism is a religion that originated in South Asia during the 15th Century and is distinct from both Islam and Hinduism. Sikhs have been living in the Sacramento Valley since the 19th century. This exhibit will highlight their history, religion, customs, traditional dress and musical instruments. The exhibition is made possible by the West Sacramento Sikh temple in cooperation with the West Sacramento Historical Society and will continue through March 2008. The museum is located at 324 Third Street in the Broderick district of West Sacramento. Hours for the museum are Friday, 10 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Saturday - Sunday, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. Admission is free. The refreshments will be provided by the Sikh community.
