at the WEST SACRAMENTO HISTORICAL SOCIETY
MUSEUM and VISITORS CENTER"

On May 1, 2008, the West Sacramento Historical Society Museum and Visitors Center in partnership with the West Sacramento Art Guild will have an awards ceremony and reception for River City High School art students whose works were selected for a juried exhibition at the museum. The event will take place from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. with the awards announced at 4:00 p.m. The museum is located at 324 Third Street in the Broderick district of West Sacramento and the exhibition will run through May 31, 2008.

The exhibition was coordinated with Joe Schumacher, an art instructor at River City High School, the West Sacramento Art Guild and Jim Brewer, Director, of the West Sacramento Historical Society Museum and Visitors Center. Nineteen students provided twenty artworks (watercolors, color and graphite pencil drawings and photographs) which were juried on Monday, April 28. The Art Guild received a City of West Sacramento Mini-Grant which was used to fund the exhibition. Eleven gift certificates were purchased from University Art in Sacramento for the top eleven winners. There are three winners in each of the first, second and third categories plus one winner each in the fourth and fifth categories. All the other students received a Participation Award. Works in the exhibition were selected from three River City High School art classes which included students from the Freshman through Senior levels. Everyone is welcome to attend the ceremony and visit the museum.

The hours for the museum are Thursday thru Sundays, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Admission is free. Refreshments will be provided by the Art Guild.
