| The glass case holds a wooden model of the Lawrence, a side-wheeler steamboat.
This was a salesman's model used by employees of the boat builder to show
the boat design.

We have a book, "The Delta King and Queen" available for
purchase in our book store that gives a fascinating story of life on these
magnificent and many times dangerous steamboats in early Sacramento.
The Lawrence operated on the Sacramento and Feather Rivers in the late 1840's.
The steamboat was shipped in pieces to San Francisco and re-assembled in
Stockton. The ship sank in 1850 when it hit a "snag" or tree stump in the
shallow waters.
