Grand Opening Celebration

WSHS held the celebration of Sikhs in West Sacramento and grand opening on September 23, 2007. The exhibit continues through March 2008

Sikh Exhibit

  • Sikhism is the fifth largest religion in the world. It is a distinct religion with its own unique, divine scriptures and beliefs.
  • Sikhism is a 500 year old religion that originated in India in the Punjab, "the land of the five rivers".
  • There are over 26 million Sikhs worldwide and over 1 million Sikhs in the United States and Canada.
  • Sikhs have lived in North America for over 100 years.
  • Sikhs do not believe in terrorism or hurting innocent people.
  • Sikh women participate in their daily life, culture and religion on equal terms with men.
  • The Sikh turban symbolizes discipline, integrity, humility, and spirituality. The turban is a mandatory part of Sikh faith, not a social custom, or a hat that can be easily taken on or off. Read more about the Sikh turban here
