September 2010A celebration of their 17th anniversary of the formation for the society and to raise funds for the History Gallery located in the new West Sacramento Community Center. The event was held at the Galleria at West Sacramento's City Hall

Shipley Walters, local historian and author, was the guest speaker for the celebration and discussed how she decided to write her books on Yolo County. Walters wrote her first book, Yolo County: Land of Changing Patterns, which was co-authored with Joann Larkey. She's written eight books including, West Sacramento: The Roots of a New City which is the first book documenting the city's past. The book was published by the Yolo County Historical Society in 1987. Jeri Hughes Wingfield, president of the historical society states, "The celebration is to bring everyone together to heighten awareness of the new History Gallery.
